APC Demands Victory or Nothing

No matter what the voters decide in next year’s presidential election; no matter the freeness and fairness of the poll; and no matter the weather on that day, the APC candidate should be declared winner. That is the message the opposition APC has been sending in the last days before the governorship election in Osun State. Accordingly, the party’s chairman, John Odigie-Oyegun, sounded a warning note during a “mega rally” of the party on August 5 to campaign for its candidate and incumbent governor, Rauf Aregbesola: “If anyone steals our mandate on February 20, 2015, we will resist it and set up a parallel government.”

Odigie-Oyegun could well have been referring to the Osun governorship poll that was four days away. The PDP would do well to permit a free poll in Osun. And it has to be seen to be free. Otherwise… there may be a repeat of 1964 in the “wild, wild west”. PDP candidate Iyiola Omisore will be fighting the hardest battle of his life on August 9.
