RMAFC Promises to Cut Lawmakers’ Salaries, Not Allowances

The boss of the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission, Mr Elias Mbam, has announced that, from September, no senator or rep will earn more than N1m per month. But he was silent on the lawmakers’ allowances that are many times bigger than their salaries.

Mbam spoke after a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari, who reportedly frowned at the legislators’ jumbo pay.

Each senator goes home with N15–25million per month; each rep, N12–15million. In June, each received N70-120million as wardrobe, recess and other allowances. Yet, the legislators have done no work in three months.
