AUGUST 17, 2016 – The Peoples Democratic Party’s national convention holds in Port Harcourt. New officers to be elected at the convention would take over from the Ahmed Makarfi-led National Caretaker Committee.
The PDP has been disunited, but INEC seems to have sided with the Makarfi camp as the authentic PDP.
Likely, a reconciliation of the Makarfi camp with the Ali Modu Sheriff camp in the PDP will take place before then. On Thursday, July 14, a meeting between both camps reportedly took place in Abuja.
The authentic PDP convention would be holding on a day one of its strong members and former military leader Ibrahim Babangida will be marking his 75th birthday: August 17.
Makarfi announced the convention date himself after a meeting of an expanded caucus meeting of the party with members of the caretaker committee in Abuja.
