Republican candidate Donald J. Trump has won the United States presidential election, having secured more than 270 electoral votes. So far he has garnered 289 votes against Mrs Clinton’s 216.
The stock markets in Asia, America and Europe have taken fright.
Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton has conceded.
Many Nigerians rooted for Clinton. But Eyeway‘s CEO Aniebo Nwamu predicted a Trump victory in a Facebook post Monday. He had predicted victory for Muhammadu Buhari of Nigeria in March 2015.
Several bookmakers including many media organisations and pollsters were proved wrong. Trump had always criticised “dishonest” media people.
Congratulatory messages have been pouring in for Trump from around the world. One of the earliest was President Putin of Russia, a Trump supporter.
President Barack Obama has also called Trump to congratulate him on his victory. The outgoing and the future US presidents will meet Thursday to begin a plan for a transition.
Trump will be sworn in on January 20, 2017.
