Astronaut John Glenn Dies, Aged 95

John Glenn, the first American to orbit Earth, has died. He was 95.

One of the most decorated Americans, Glenn first flew to space in 1962, a time President John Kennedy challenged American scientists to put a man on the moon within that decade. They did in July 1969, five years and eight months after Kennedy’s assassination.

Glenn was in the Senate for 24 years from 1974.
