Foreign Airlines Reject Kaduna Airport, as Abuja Airport Closed

Foreign airlines are likely to suspend operations from the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport, Abuja, Nigeria, this Tuesday. And they will not agree to use the Kaduna airport to which Abuja flights are to be diverted from Wednesday.

Minister of state for aviation Hadi Sirika said one unnamed foreign airline has accepted to use the Kaduna airport.

The official announcement of Abuja airport’s closure was made Monday by information minister Lai Mohammed along with transportation minister Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi and Sirika.

The Nigerian government says the airport will remain closed for six weeks to enable maintenance of the international airport.

Judging by the country’s way of doing things, the closure may last longer.
