Pope Francis Celebrates Mass in Fatima

Pope Francis is in Fatima, Portugal, for events marking the 100th anniversary of the appearance of Blessed Virgin Mary to three shepherd children.

On Saturday, the Pope celebrates Holy Mass in the town with the canonisation of Jacinta Marto (1910 – 1920) and Francisco Marto (1907 – 1919), two of the three children who saw the apparition on May 13, 1917. The third was Lucia Santos (1907 – 2005), their cousin, the only one who died in old age.

Vatican Radio reports that the Pope prayed on Friday in the Little Chapel of the Apparitions in Fatima, “entrusting himself, in union with his brothers and sisters, to Our Lady of Immaculate Heart. A golden rose was the personal gift he left at her feet”.

Events listed on Vatican.com show that on Friday, while the Pope was in Fatima, there would be “Blessing of the candles and recitation of the Rosary”.
